Habitat for Humanity - Tucson

St. Mark's United Methodist Church is a member of the Northwest Coalition...a group of churches working together to contribute both the funds and the labor necessary to build a Habitat for Humanity home. The other churches in the coalition are Casas Adobes United Church of Christ, Oro Valley United Church of Christ and Resurrection Lutheran Church. Habitat volunteers often lend one another a hand. Members of the Northwest Coalition sometimes work on other Habitat Houses on the street, and other workers sometimes come over and help with ours!

Habitat for Humanity Tucson builds houses in partnership with low-income working families, with the goal of eliminating poverty-level housing. But HFHT builds more than walls and roofs; it builds hope of a better life for hundreds of deserving families in Tucson. As of January 2000, 133 homes had been completed for more than 600 area adults and children.

PROJECT NEWS:

Over 75 St. Mark's members joined with people from the other coalition churches to attend our first Habitat House "wall-raising" ceremony on Jan. 6, 2001.

Twenty-five plus members stayed to work after the event. We were able to raise the four exterior walls on the first day!

During the first three weeks, St. Mark's members accumulated over 240 hours of labor toward the completion of the family home.

The home awaited inspection of the interior wiring and the exterior stucco prep.

The stucco work was then contracted out, and was followed by hanging the drywall.

These pictures show various stages of the project.

St. Mark's Quilters Group also contributed their time and talents to make several quilts.

The Dedication Ceremony was held June 2, 2001.
