General
Info:
The Marksmen is
an informal organization of men dedicated to the mission
of the Christian Church in general and of St. Mark's United
Methodist Church in particular. Programs at the meetings
are many and varied. They include demonstrations of hobbies,
biographical sketches, and discussions over the role of our
church in Tucson and the world at large. Speakers include
persons from the medical and communication professions, law
enforcement, education and the religious community. There
are no dues. The treasury is maintained by donations above
the cost of the breakfast. These donations pay for the ongoing
projects of the organization -- the Builder's Fund and minor
projects in our own and other churches. The money from our
major fundraising projects is always earmarked in advance
for a particular purpose, which may be outside the St. Mark's
Community. In the past we have donated money to a community
recreation center at Hope UMC, a TMM daycare center, Youth
at Risk, etc.
Mission Statement:
We affirm the
principles for living that Jesus Christ exemplified in his
life and teachings. We believe that we can grow in our faith
as Christians by making a difference in our church and in
our community. We believe that laypersons must bear the responsibility
for such tasks.
Our
Purpose:
To
foster awareness of issues, problems and concerns relating
to the role of all laypersons in our church, whether or
not they are in positions of leadership or responsibility.
To
act as an outlet for Christian service for those desiring
to "take that extra step" in their journeys
through life.
To
bring the problems in our local community to the attention
of the whole church and to propose possible solutions
to those problems.
To
commit to the expansion of equity among all individuals
within the church, the community, and the world.
To
support one another by sharing our joys and our sorrows.
To
support the youth of St. Mark's in their service projects.
