Your Spiritual Growth and Calling

At St. Mark’s, we are committed to helping you to grow spiritually. One way we do this is by helping you discover your spiritual gifts and find God’s calling for your life.

What are Spiritual Gifts?
Spiritual gifts are God’s empowerment of God’s people for God’s work. More specifically defined:

Spiritual Gifts are unique endowments from the Holy Spirit, generously shared with Christians in community for building up the body of Christ in practical ways.

Every Christian has at least one unique spiritual gift waiting to be discovered. God has designed the church so that people can find deep meaning and experience powerful joy when they use their gifts to minister to others.

What is God’s Will for Your Life?
Have you ever wondered what God wants you to do with your life? By learning about your spiritual gifts, you can recognize your deepest passions and wield the strongest capabilities given to you by the Holy Spirit.

One Body, Many Parts
The human body cannot operate effectively unless all of its “members” are functioning. The church is Christ’s body and similarly needs each Christian to know and use his or her gifts in order to be effective.

A Complete Course
Our congregation offers the eight-hour course Serving From the Heart on a continuing basis to help people find their gifts and fully understand God’s call.

Each session combines teaching, sharing and personal exploration. Participants will find clues to their gifts through the Spiritual Gifts Discovery Tool and other gifts discovery activities.

The Eight Course Sessions:

• Session 2: Spiritual Gifts Discovery
• Session 3: Spiritual Gifts Defined
• Session 4: Talents and Resources
• Session 5: Individuality
• Session 6: Dreams
• Session 7: Experiences
• Session 8: Putting It All Together

Course Content:

• Biblical foundation for understanding Spiritual Gifts
• Discovering your Spiritual Gifts
• Understanding Spiritual Gifts as defined in the Bible and as they are manifested in the Church today
• Distinguishing talents from Spiritual Gifts
• What else has God given me to use in building up the Kingdom?
• Exploring our uniqueness
• Exploring our passions
• Exploring our experiences
• What does it mean for me?
