Our Church...The United Methodist Church
(From: The
1996 Book of Discipline)
(Also see: www.umc.org the
Official UMC web site.)
With Christians
of other communions we confess
belief in the triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Wesley
believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed
in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal
experience, and confirmed by reason.
The Sacraments
We
believe the Sacraments, ordained by Christ, are symbols and
pledges of the Christian's profession and of God's love toward
us. They are the means of grace by which God works invisibly
in us, quickening, strengthening and confirming our faith in
him. Two Sacraments are ordained by Christ our Lord, namely
Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Scripture
United
Methodists share with other Christians the conviction that
Scripture is the primary source and criterion for Christian
doctrine. Through Scripture the living Christ meets us in the
experience of redeeming grace. We are convinced that Jesus
Christ is the living Word of God in our midst whom we trust
in life and death.
