This Sunday is Pentecost!
We will wear red and remember the day that the Spirit came on the disciples with tongues of flame and blowing wind. We will celebrate the birthday of the church and will have big worship. It's one of the "high holy days" of the Christian year.
At its core, the story of Pentecost is the story of the fulfillment of what Jesus promised his disciples. In John 14, he promised that he would send a Comfortor, an Advocate, a Spirit. This Spirit would be a spirit of peace. Jesus said, peace I give you.
It's fitting, then, that we will celebrate this week to celebrate Peace with Justice Sunday. "The United Methodist Church uses this day to speak out for peace and justice. Our Social Principles call us to love our enemies, seek justice, and serve as peacemakers in resolving conflict. We renew our commitment that to live into our mission of transforming the world, we must prioritize collaboration among nations, work to reduce the use and need for weapons, and foster just, equitable and durable solutions to the root causes of conflict."
As we celebrate the Spirit of peace that comes to the believers at Pentecost, our Church and Society committee invites you to consider a gift to Peace with Justice Sunday offering. Half of the offering is distributed to organizations promoting peace that are located right here in the Desert Southwest Conference. Envelopes are available on Sunday or you can give online.

Peace with Justice Special Sunday offering, June 8th:
You may have heard it said, without justice, there can be no peace. So, if we want peace, we must be committed to disrupting the conditions and systems that perpetuate injustice. Examples include providing access to safe and healthy food, having clean water and air, providing opportunities for everyone to thrive, eliminating gender inequality, racism and xenophobia.

This summer, step into the gallery of grace.
We invite you to a new worship series—Grace Changes Everything—where we’ll explore the joy-filled, life-changing messages of Paul’s letters to the Romans and Corinthians. Like walking through a museum, each week we’ll frame one “masterpiece” of grace: stories of welcome, transformation, community, and joy.
Whether you're staying in town through the heat or finding peace in the pause of summer, come celebrate with us as we discover:
- The Frame of Grace
- Love is the Masterpiece
- Strength in the Cracks
- and much more.
Sundays beginning June 22
St. Mark’s UMC – both campuses
All ages welcome. All gifts celebrated. All people included.

In 2023 AZ Native tribes united to have protection of their tribes’ ancestral homelands near the Grand Canyon expanded. The new Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni National Monument is considered sacred by Native peoples as it contains ancient petroglyphs, pictographs, and rock structures. Last week members of congress contested the creation of the National Monument: National Monument being contested. It also showed up on the Department of Interior’s list to open up for drilling and mining. Let your members of congress know this is not the way we protect sacred land.
