Abe Gibson is our Chancel Choir Director here at St. Mark’s and a Ph.D. candidate in the University of Arizona’s Fred Cox School of Music . Prior to his position at St. Mark’s, Abe spent four years as Director of Music for Sanctuary Services at Church of the Lakes in Canton, Ohio. In that capacity he covered all the music activities at the church including two adult choirs, selected smaller vocal ensembles, two handbell choirs – one adult and one youth – and a youth choir. Additionally, he was an adjunct professor of choral activities at Kent State University.
Abe earned his Masters Degree in Music at Youngstown State University in Ohio where he also served as a Graduate Assistant in Choral Conducting. His duties at Youngstown State included recruitment of students as well as conducting rehearsals when needed.
His undergraduate work at Seten Hill College in Greensburg, Penn., was in Sacred Music with an emphasis on vocal performance.
After graduating from Seten Hill, Abe was the Assistant Choral Director and featured baritone soloist at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greensburg prior to his post in Canton.
Abe, his wife, and daughter are glad to make the desert home!
